Saturday afternoon and the grill is ready and hot. What could be better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than be with your friends, enjoy from sunshine on the terrace and have a barbecue? Sounds like a perfect summerday but it works also in the middle of Melbourne winter. Afterwards we were supposed to go see footy game but that plan didn't work out so well. Let's say that there were some alcohol and thirsty Irish men. But the barbecue was fun and the tasty burgers were soon gone and there were no empty tummys that evening. Roommates bought veggie beefs for me so I got my burger too. So sweet and delicious !

After the most laziest Sunday morning I finally got out from our Wanda Road nest. I was supposed to go to the City for souvenir shopping but like our footy game last night the plans changed little bit. But this time it wasn't because of Irishs. On the way to the City I saw a market stalls and lots of people next to NVG (National Gallery of Victoria). I decided to go and check out what was it about. This is what I love about Melbourne. You never know what there is behind the corner ! This time it was Sunday market where you could buy local producers handcrafts: soaps, candels, leather products, children clothes etc. They were also selling cakes and pastries and probably the most popular ones were the little shell cakes which were made when ordered. There were long line all the time and eveybody wanted to have their own. I decided to leave the market bustle behind me and continue walking on the river shore.

Sen sijaan, etta olisin lahtenyt Cityn suuntaan, paatin menna Docklandsiin (kaupunginosa Cityn lansipuolella), jossa en ollut viela vieraillut. Yllatykseni sain huomata, etta jokivarsi oli melko kiireinen. Kiireellisyyden takana oli luultavasti koulujen loma-aika (Australiassa joka lukukausi on 3 viikon loma) seka kaunis aurinkoinen sunnuntaipaiva. Itsestani tuntui, kuin kesa olisi tullut kylaan. Ihmiset nayttivat iloisilta ja soivat jaateloa, katutaiteilijat viihdyttivat kiireettomia kavelijoita ja turistit pysahtelivat ottamaan valokuvia toisistaan. Matkallani nainkin paljon turistinahtavyyksia, jotka kyseisena paivana luultavasti tayttyivat lapsiperheista ja muista kaupungeista tulleista turisteista: Melbourne Aquarium, Batman (! haha) Park, Melbourne Exhibition Centre (paikallinen Turun Messukeskus) seka Polly Woodside Maritime Precinct. Olin siis saapunut jo South Wharfin alueelle ja loysinkin oman nahtavyyteni ja kiinnostuksen kohteeni. DFO Shopping centren, joka on suuri ostoskeskus taynna outlet-myymaloita. Joka tyton paratiisi siis ! Mietin myos, etta paikka voisi olla hyva paikka tuliaisten ostoskeluun ja paatin kavaista sisalla. Ulos tullessani minulla olikin suuri kassi kadessani, mutta ostokset olivat paaasiassa "tuliaisia" itselleni. Mutta lupaan tehneeni hyvaa taustatutkimusta tulevaisuuden tuliaisostoksia varten !
Instead of going to the City I decided to go and visit Docklands (district on the West side of City) where I haven't been before. The river shore was full of people. Schools had end of term holidays and it was sunny Sunday so no wonder why there were so much people. For me it felt like the Summer had came and visit: people were happy and eating ice cream, street artists entertaining people and lot of tourists visiting the city. On the way I saw lot of tourist attractions which were probably full of families and tourists from other cities: Melbourne Aquarium, Batman (! haha) Park, Melbourne Exhibition Centre and Polly Woodside Maritime Precinct. So I had already ended up until South Wharf and I found my attraction: DFO Shopping Centre. Big shopping centre full of outlet shops = every girls paradise. When I went in I thought I could check souvenirs for my family but when I came out and checked my bag: gift pretty much just for myself. But I promise I did some background research for my future souvenir shopping !

Docklands' was a forgotten suburb but now when CBD is getting bigger and growing all the time people have opened to the possibilities of this area. Nowadays many big corporations like ANZ, Australian National Bank, Myers etc. have their headquarters in Docklands and many company is interested to change their area code for Docklands'. Area has tried to boost their vitality many ways. For example nowadays one of the main attractions is Etihad Stadium which offers entertainment for sport and culture lovers. Other attractions are Southern Cross Station, Harbour Town Shopping Centre and the dock itself it's a sight. I walked to the Central Pier and sat down to look at the sun going down and colouring the sky with pastel shades. I admired my shoppings and followed for a while the fishermen next to me. I just sighed and thought that again there was a one nice day behind. But it was time to go back home and I started my hometrip with old fashioned city tram . The ride was bumpy and cramped. But I didn't mind. I was happy to be just there right then.
