Tiesitko, etta meidan kaikkien tunteman australialainen laulajakaunotar Kylie Minogue, tunnetaan myos Kylli-tatina joissakin piireissa, teki ensimmaisen lapimurtonsa Australian suositussa saippuasarjassa The Neighbours 1987?
Did you know that the well-known Australian beauty Kylie Minogue achieved her recognition in the popular Australian TV-show The Neighbours 1987? Or that the movie Jaws (1975) by Steven Spielberg is known as the first blockbuster movie? After Jaws came George Lucas' Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies, Aliens and James Cameron's big movies Avatar and Titanic. Perhaps thhese aren't the most important things you need to know but funny little pop quiz knowledge for dinner table after you've visited in ACMI.

Australian Centre for the Moving Images (ACMI) is situated next to Federation Square and it explores, promotes and celebrates the cultural and creative richness of the moving image in all its forms - film, television and digital culture. Centre is full of different kind of exhibitions and performances around the year. The new exhibition Screen Worlds: The Story of Film, Television and Digital Culture is free and it presents the development of moving images.

I visited at the exhibition when it was lousy and rainy autumn day. Actually then the place is great place to spend some time as there's nothing to do outside ! The day was also public holiday (Queen's birthday) and that meant lot of families with kids and huss and fuzz like in a zoo. After I saw one kid emptying her nose on the screen which was introducing the achievements of Walt Disney I decided not to touch the screens. Everybody has their own ways to make a statement. Anyway at the exhibition you can read about the history of movies, see worlds firsts tv-broadcasts or best of all: play old Nintendo Gameboy which you used to play at 90's. The game was most popular that day and I wasn't the only one to wait her turn to play. At the exhibition you can also see old video clips for example from Princess Diana's funeral, Australia's first Idols-final, tragedy of WTC at 2001 etc. I finally introduced myself to Australian's favorite tv-show The Neighbours and watched a clip from that.

There are also many other exhibitions in ACMI. Some of them are also free. I didn't visited other exhibitions this time as I felt I had enough culture for the day. It was time to have something else -food ! But I didn't leave from the exhibition centre with empty hands. In the end more lousy and useless information which I learnd and you probably don't need.
Ensimmaiseksi, tiesitko etta monien rakastama australialainen lastenohjelma Vili Vilperi perustuu jo 1930 -luvulla kirjoitettuihin lastenkirjoihin? Ei kovin oleellinen tieto, mutta itse rakastin tuota ohjelmaa !
Did you know that the lovely australian children's tv-program Blinky Bill is based on children's book from 1930's? Probably no one cares but I loved that tv-program !

Well, here something little bit more serious and perhaps historically more important knowledge. Did you know that the world's first sport games which were broadcasted live on television were the Olympics in Berlin 1936? The Nazi Party who was in power then thought this act presented the national engineerinf feat. Luckily the technology and the engineering skill have developed little bit ..
